This event aims to inspire and empower you to do this by bringing together a wide range of local and regional services, organisations, and experts.
With specialist talks, information stalls, fitness demonstrations, and free health checks, there will be something for everyone! Come for as much or as little of the day as you wish.

Please note: this event is for patients registered with Hadwen Health or Quedgeley Medical Centre. However, we welcome patients to bring non-registered family members and close friends for support. Please ensure all attendees register individually. Children under the age of 16 do not need to be registered.

There will be a series of talks delivered by experts throughout the day.
Talks will last 30-45 minutes each, with breaks between to allow attendees time to look around the information stalls and speak to other professionals and service providers.

You will hear about how this prevention programme and how it can help people to reduce their weight, increase their physical activity levels and improve their diet, empowering them to take charge of their health and wellbeing and learn how to prevent diabetes. |
11:00 | Prostate Health | Mr Okeke, Consultant Urologist, Nuffield Health | Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK. Its causes aren’t clear, but if you have a male family member that has been diagnosed with the disease, there is an increased risk of you developing it. And the risk of getting prostate cancer gets higher as you get older. Mr Okeke will be talking about risks, screening and tests, diagnosis and treatment options during this talk. |

She will cover how to check breasts, the risks of developing breast cancer, options for breast screening, and what to do if you are concerned about your breasts. |
13:00 | Long Covid | Dr Raghuram, Respiratory Consultant, Nuffield Health | ‘Long COVID’ is commonly used for both ongoing symptomatic COVID-19 and post-COVID-19 syndrome. Dr Raghuram will be looking at what Long COVID is, what the symptoms of it are, how to self-manage, and options for rehabilitation. |
14:00 | Pain Management | Dr Cathy Stannard, Clinical Lead for Pain Transformation, NHS Gloucestershire ICB | Persistent, chronic or long term pain is complex, and there is rarely a single treatment to resolve it. Cathy will talk about what chronic pain is and how the pain management service available in Gloucestershire can help address all aspects of persistent pain management, and help people to live well with pain. Cathy was a Consultant in Pain Medicine for 23 years and is now Clinical Lead for Pain Transformation in NHS Gloucestershire ICB. She writes and lectures nationally and internationally on pain, evidence, and opioid therapy. |

10:00 | Impact of Trauma | Diverse Leap | Experiencing trauma can be a debilitating experience for the long-term, particularly if the event is not properly processed by those involved. Richard Castle is a trauma psychologist who has been involved in the aftermath of many traumatic experiences, both in the military context and also following disasters such as the Grenfell Tower Fire (2017). He is also a survivor of the Paddington Rail Disaster (1999). Richard will talk about how trauma can adversely impact on the survivor’s mental health and also how we can support ourselves and each other when the unthinkable actually happens. Richard will also talk about the role of Diverse Leap and how this Matson-based charity can support people with poor mental wellbeing |

This talk will look at how to reduce your risk of dementia, signs and symptoms of dementia, how to get a diagnosis, and what support is available after diagnosis. |
14:00 | Diabetes Remission | Nicola Jersche, Xyla Health & Wellbeing | Often termed the ‘NHS Soups and Shakes’ diet, and formerly known as the NHS Low Calorie Diet Programme, the NHS Type 2 Diabetes Path to Remission Programme is a free new service for people with Type 2 diabetes. Nicola from Xyla Health & Wellbeing will be talking about what this programme involved and how it can promote rapid weight loss, long term behaviour change and type two diabetes remission. |
Weight Management
You might think you know what weight management is, and how to lose weight, but we guarantee there is far more to it than you think. Health Life Fitness will be running talks and exercise demonstrations throughout the day, aimed at providing top tips on how to lose weight, get fitter, be healthier, age well or just look and feel better.

Diverse Leap: A charity that offers drop-in support hubs in Gloucester to anyone that needs it. The charity was started at the Redwell Centre in Gloucester at the end of 2021, with the aim of providing community-based support for people in Gloucestershire who are experiencing poor mental health and wellbeing. Early Help: About getting timely and effective support to children, young people, and their families who need it, and also focuses on how families can be supported to do things for themselves and build on their strengths. The services offer a range of advice guidance and support directly to families or other practitioners who are supporting them, alongside a range of targeted services where more help is needed.
