Building zoning during the Coronavirus outbreak

Our new building has enabled us to create a red zone for patients that need to be seen who may have Coronavirus symptoms.

This zone consists of two consulting rooms which are separated from the rest of the building behind fire doors, and has its own entrance. Anyone needing to be seen in this area parks in the Ridge and Furrow Car Park (The pub has kindly agreed to this).

The red zone GP then meets the patient in their car and if appropriate the consultation takes place there. If this is not appropriate they are shown into one of the two consulting rooms using the fire exit door that opens onto Glevum Way. After every consultation the GP’s Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) is replaced and if a room is used it is thoroughly decontaminated.

The rest of the building is designated a green zone. Entrance to this is zone is by the door closest to our main car park and anyone entering the building is screened to ensure that they or no-one in their household has any Coronavirus symptoms before they are allowed in. There are a small number of steps to negotiate if entering via this door, so anyone with restricted mobility will be allowed to entrance the building through our main door.

Anyone with an appointment in the green zone will be seen by a clinician wearing PPE, and a thorough clean and decontamination of the green zone takes place every evening.

The majority of consultations are now being carried out by telephone and video so patients are only being seen in the green zone where absolutely necessary eg for examinations, immunisations, and blood tests.

It is important that if you feel you have any urgent non-Coronavirus medical issues that you contact us so these can be discussed with the appropriate clinician rather than waiting until our normal service resumes again.
